There are so many things to consider ahead of transfer, and I love it when patients are thinking a few steps ahead. In today’s podcast episode, Ash has asked, “Hi Dr. Aimee, I am 34 years old, never been pregnant, trying for 4 years, tubes clear, AMH 6.4 (probable PCOS), with male factor infertility.
My husband had a bilateral varicocele repair in October and we were planning on a retrieval in January with a fresh transfer (hopefully). However, I had an in office hysteroscopy last week and they saw a 1.5cm fibroid in the uterine cavity near the fundus. I was told that this fibroid has to be removed before a transfer.
My question is: what is the best order? Should I do the retrieval, freeze embryos (no chance at a fresh transfer), then have the fibroid removed before we transfer OR should I remove the fibroid, do the retrieval and attempt a fresh transfer?
I ask this because I don’t want the fibroid to grow back and I read that the IVF meds can cause fibroids to grow. I was told by my doc that it doesn’t matter what order we decide on. I just want the best outcome possible... help! Thank you!”
